My best friend, Diane, and I had a New Year’s Day gathering yesterday. We had a wonderful time and, one of the questions asked by my friend, Judi, of our guests was, “What was the best thing that happened in your life in 2012?”
My answer was that I got to be with my oldest sister, Barbara, who was experiencing dire health circumstances in Allen, Texas last year (this experience will be the subject of further, in-depth writings).
I went to Texas, thinking that I’d be there one week. I ended up spending seven months, the whole time thinking that I was engaged in some high act of altruism. When the situation was resolved and my sister was finally functional and able to move out of Texas, I returned to Atlanta – where I mostly did nothing but rest for about two months.
Once I got back into my own life, I was able to see how the excruciatingly-difficult situation my sister and I had gone through together had made me a better person, in many different ways.
“I could SEE that in you,” my friend, Joan, mentioned. “Only I didn’t know what was the cause.”
Now, I’d like to ask YOU: What was the best thing that happened in YOUR life in 2012?

And, thanks for sharing.
